Releasing My Inner Light: The Transformational Experience of a Kundalini Yoga Retreat in Guatemala

I’ve just returned from a week-long Kundalini Yoga retreat, hosted by Yoga Farm Ithica (www.yogafarm.us) and held at the stunning Saasil Retreat Center (www.saasilretreat.com) in Tzununa, Guatemala. This transformative experience was facilitated by an incredible team of women who guided us through deep healing, connection, and self-discovery.

Going in, I was nervous. It was my first retreat, and I was heading into the unknown—spending a week in a foreign country with 25 strangers. But little did I know that this journey would spark a resurrection of my connection to Kundalini, to myself, to my community, and to the collective universe.

Throughout the week, I experienced deeply healing rituals such as the Temezcal Sauna and a rebirthing ceremony, where I was able to release old wounds and anger that no longer serve me. I also swam in the beautiful Lake Atitlán, surrounded by volcanoes, and supported the Women's Weaving Cooperative in San Juan, learning the importance of sustainable practices and community support. I tasted some of the best cacao and chocolate and experienced an incredible part of the Mayan culture.

The retreat allowed me to find a part of myself I thought had been long-lost, and I learned new mantras and kriyas that I now carry with me. Perhaps most significantly, I learned to live in COLOR—embracing vibrancy in everything I do.

The people I met during this retreat are now lifelong friends, and I’m forever grateful for the beautiful community we created together.

When I returned, I received a small print with a poster I’d ordered from Etsy that said, “Take Up Space.” It struck me immediately. A reminder to embrace our authenticity, to not shy away from claiming our place in the world, and to recognize that we belong here—just as much as anyone else.

This experience has deepened my connection to Kundalini Yoga and my passion for helping others find balance, peace, and strength. If you’re curious about Kundalini and how it can support your journey, please let me know. I’d love to share what I’ve learned and explore how this practice might resonate with you.
